What is Invisalign?

Often promoted as an “invisible” way of straightening teeth, this technique uses a series of clear, custom-fabricated aligners that gradually move teeth to their desired positions.

Your Invisalign treatment consists of a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that you change every two weeks for the next set of aligners. Each aligner is individually manufactured for your teeth, and your teeth only. As you replace each aligner, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position prescribed by your dental provider.

What’s more, a virtual treatment plan generated by Align Technology’s unique ClinCheck® software shows the series of movements your teeth will go through over the course of the treatment. This allows you to see upfront what your teeth are expected to look like at the end of the treatment. From the results of the ClinCheck software, your custom-made, clear aligners are produced especially for you.

Like all treatment choices, invisalign has its limitations. We will need to assess your individual circunstance to determine your suitability for treatment.

Facts about Invisalign

The total duration of treatment depends on the complexity of the treatment and is generally equal to that of traditional braces. Typically treatment can last between 9 and 18 months. During your consultation, the dentist can provide you with more detailed information.

Appointment intervals are generally the same as with traditional braces but can be much quicker with less time spent in the chair during appointments as no adjustments need to be made to wires/brackets. Patients typically visit us every 4 to 8 weeks to ensure the treatment is progressing as planned, and to receive their next few sets of Invisalign aligners, but the dentist will decide based on your treatment.

The vast majority of patients report no effect on speech. However, as with traditional orthodontic appliances, there is an initial adjustment period associated with having something new in the mouth.

Aligners should be worn at least 22 hours per day during treatment, except when eating, brushing or flossing teeth.
